Beliefs Inventory

To connect my self view with my beliefs and behaviors, my therapist wants me to do this Beliefs Inventory from The Relaxation and Stress Reduction Workbook by Martha Davis, Elizabeth Robbins Eshelman, and Matthew McKay. It says that I scored more than 50% on the following logical fallacies:

1. It is an absolute necessity for an adult to have love and approval from peers, family, and friends.

4. It is horrible when people and things are not the way you would like them to be.

5. External events cause most human misery - people simply react as events trigger their emotions.

6. You should feel fear or anxiety about anything that is unknown, uncertain, or potentially dangerous.

7. It is easier to avoid than to face life's difficulties and responsibilities.

8. You need something other or stronger or greater than yourself to rely on.

Other irrational ideas not indicated in the inventory that I said I agree with:

15. When people disapprove of you, it invariably means that you are wrong or bad.

I'll need to comment on these at a later time.

Histrionic Behavior and True Reality In Emotions

Histrionic - A deliberate display of emotion for effect

I get very demonstrative and I often do try to tailor my behavior to what I think should be the right emotional response. I also know that it's connected to my sex addiction, which often turns my affect inside-out. Often my reality situation leaves me disgruntled, bored, and impatient because it doesn't live up to the elation I could have received from the addiction.

In my faith in God and Christ, I remind myself that my body is lying to me, as one of the three sources of temptation (the other two being the devil and the World) and that reality only exists in Christ. I look around me for signs of True Life and search them thoroughly for satisfaction and positive feelings.
